Rock Sound/Governors Harbour/Royal Island

The weather was beautiful again today and we had an amazing sail to Rock Sound. Richard caught his first Dorado (mahi mahi), which are a rather ugly looking fish but a beautiful colour, but as they start to die the color starts to fade, very weird to see. It was putting up quite a fight so we were told to pour alcohol in its gills to subdue it, well our Pineapple rum knocked it out cold! The fish was delicious, very firm and mild.
We arrived in Rock Sound around 4pm with enough time to get to the grocery store for provisions and the hardware store for propane. Sunday morning we enjoyed the Church service at the local Methodist Church. We met quite a few cruisers walking in town and enjoyed a friendly chat.
Monday morning we headed for Governors Harbour, we both really enjoy this little community and were looking forward to spending some time here. We had met Greg and Barb on Chumba in Long Island and Rock Sound and had planned on doing some sightseeing together. After our second day here the weather forecast was not looking good for the next week and also tides were a factor as Current Cut is 5 hours away and timing for tides during daylight hours were only good for the next few days so we decided to make a run for Current Cut to Royal Island to position for crossing over to the Abacos. We had met a Dennis on Chances a single hander from Ontario in Rock Sound so he was buddy boating with us to Abacos and we both made the cut in good time and on to Royal Island. As we entered Royal we were greeted by Scott, Michelle and Jib on Malakai who we had spent New Years with in Rock Sound with Kevin. It’s so nice to meet people and then see them again on our travels. On every one of these passages we had the pleasure of having dolphins playing around our boat, which is always a joy to see! We did get some pictures of three of them around us from Governors to Current Cut.

After checking weather and tides that evening we decided to leave the next morning at 5am to make the 50 mile crossing to the Abacos. The winds were forecast for 16knts and waves 5-6 feet, we needed to pass through Little Harbour Cut by 145pm during slack tide due to the strong easterly winds.
