solar panels

Having enough power on a boat is always an issue. On Salvation we are fortunate to have a built in generator that will be used freeze the holding plates for the refrigerator and to charge the new Trojan batteries. To minimize our run time for the battery charge we have upgraded a solar panel system by adding two 80-watt flexible panels onto the bimini. This will give us 290 watts of theoretical power.
I first strengthened the bimini frame to help support the panels then glued Velcro on both sides of the panels as shown in the pictures. Lots of sewing following where I made Velcro strips that will encase the edge of the panel in.

Hopefully everything will work fine and that I can manage to not drop the boom onto the new panels!
